Frank Earl May Sr.

Age 92, of Jackson came into this world on August 6, 1927, the son of Rollin W. and Jessie Christopher May, and was a blessing to all who knew him. On October 9, 2019 the Lord looked around and decided heaven needed a little more humor so He called Frank home. He left surrounded by his family at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 70 years, Marion; by his children Sue DeChant, Vicki Cary, Jerry (Susan Fisher) May, Sally Ann Thompson and Andy May; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Frank May Jr, great grandson Quentin David Cobb, brother Howard, sister-in-law Virginia Hoard May, nephew Howard May Jr, and special siblings Chuck, Ival Wayne, Rollin, Dodo (Arthur), and Gordon Hendrick, and Honey Duffield. Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and left for boot camp following graduation from Jackson High School in June. He was stationed at Banana River Naval Air Station in Florida. He retired from Clark Equipment Co after 36 years, and from Brinks after 12 years. He was very proud of his 29 years as a ticket taker at the Jackson County Fair. He enjoyed golf, was the original family handyman, was an avid Jackson history buff, and especially loved dancing with his sweetheart and sitting on the deck holding her hand while enjoying the wildlife in his backyard. Above all, Frank was best known for his humor and good nature, living up to his yearbook caption "Wit and humor belong to genius alone", and for his unwavering love for and devotion to his family. He was the husband and father that his sons and grandsons aspire to be. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place. Services will be held at St John the Evangelist Church, 711 N. Martin Luther King Dr on Tuesday October 15, 2019 at 11:00 am. Family and friends will gather from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Military Honors will be rendered by the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team. The family wishes to extend its deepest gratitude to Henry Ford Allegiance Health Oncology Dept, Respiratory Rehab Center and all staff, and the Pulmonary Clinic of Southern Michigan for your kindness, compassion and outstanding care of our husband, father and grandfather.
