James Walter Griffin

Griffin, James “Jim” Tipton, Michigan James Walter Griffin, 73, passed away May 19, 2020. He was born on November 29, 1946, in Saline, Michigan to Clyde and Helen (Armbruster) Griffin. Jim married Judy Reynolds in 2002. He will be remembered for his love of sports. Jim was a star athlete at Saline High School, lettering in football, baseball, and basketball. He received a football scholarship to Ferris State. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was severely injured. When he returned home, he gained employment with the Washtenaw County Road Commission, retiring after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Greely/ Evans Moose Lodge #909, Irish Hills Eagles #3689, and the Hall-Slater VFW Post #4187of Tecumseh. Jim enjoyed bowling and golf. He and Judy played in many golf tournaments and wintered at Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Jim loved his pets, all Michigan sports and spent many hours routing for his favorite teams. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Jim will be missed by his sister, Myrna Griffin Williams; niece Terra Williams-Bradley, nephew Troy Williams; three great nephews; and many cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy, and brother that died in infancy, Walter Griffin. Jim’s family held a private gathering at Eineder’s Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Brooklyn Chapel. Interment took place at St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Cemetery. Public memorial services will take place on Friday, August 14, 2020 at 11:00AM at Covenant EPC in Tecumseh (5290 Milwaukee Rd, Tecumseh MI 49286) following the public gathering from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Lenawee or the Saline Area Schools Athletic Department.
