Barbara Grace Duryea (Moll)

Barbara Grace (Slaybaugh) (Moll) Duryea was born on August 2, 1928, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Fred and Grace Slaybaugh. Soon after, the family moved to Jackson, Michigan, where Barbara grew up and lived the remainder of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Budd Duryea; her parents, Fred and Grace Slaybaugh; her infant brother, Charles Slaybaugh; and Budd's children, Becky (Duryea) Lewis and Brian Duryea. Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Jackie (Chris) West, Jeanette (Mike) Jones and Carolyn (Mark) Dossey; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Darren) Schupbach, Chris (Xinyan) West, Jon (Cami) West, Mike (Jodi) Jones, Merissa (Matt) DeLuca, Madelyn Jones, Patrick Duffy, Collin Duffy, Matt (Amanda) Dossey and Chad (Ashley) Dossey and great-grandchildren, Joe Schupbach, Jake Schupbach, Paige (Ryan) Shaw, Pudge West, Caitlyn West, Isabella West, Sarah Mitchell, Hunter West, Mikey Jones, Clint Duffy, Kate Dossey, Alex Dossey, Emma Dossey, Aiden Dossey and Lucas Dossey. She is also survived by Budd's children, Bruce (Cathy) Duryea and Bonnie (Don Holsworth) Acker; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Barbara was very special and kind. She was thoughtful, caring and a beautiful person inside and out. In her early years she worked at the Homemade in downtown Jackson which specialized in homemade baked goods. Her career then took her to Jacobson's and the Jacobson's Home Store. She then worked for Sears, Swartley Phone Service and Manpower. Every place she worked she made an impact and friends. Barbara and Budd were high school sweethearts and reconnected later in life. They did everything together including shopping, going on trips, watching sports and playing cards. She loved her family very much and enjoyed many great times at family gatherings where laughter and fun always took place. She wouldn't miss any holiday, birthday celebration or special occasion. And there were many Sunday dinners that were enjoyed together as well. She had wonderful friends, many of which she had met through church, and had so much fun playing cards and going on trips with them. Early years were with her Bridge Club friends and later in life with her Euchre and Canasta friends. She also loved playing cards with her grandchildren and would let them win once in a while. She enjoyed her sports, especially the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Pistons and you best not call her while they were on, and if you did, the conversation was a short one. Her favorite store to shop after Jacobson's closed was Dillard's where she was very particular in what she bought and always looked so nice. She was a great cook and baker. Her pie crust was the very best and she would always make her favorite cookie recipes at Christmas to share with family and friends. She loved to play the piano and had the most beautiful singing voice and smile to go with it. She was a gem. We will miss her very much but she has left us so many cherished memories from the 93 years of her life which will stay with us forever. A very special thank you to Kevin, Leigh, Bobby and Reid Ganton, Jodie and the entire Arbor North staff as well as the Arbor North Allegiance staff including Mike, Sherry, Key, Kate and all those who cared for our mom. Additional thanks to Jennifer Paulson from Careline and Kelsey and Kaitlin from Hospice who brought comfort to our mom. No words can ever express the gratitude and appreciation our family has for all of you. We were all truly blessed to have you watch over our mom. A private memorial service is being held with the family.
