Dorothy N Oster

OSTER, DOROTHY NAOMI Age 87, of Jackson, Dorothy reached for her beloved husband Harold's hand Monday, October 8, 2012 and now walks with Jesus in the glorious fields of Heaven. Dorothy is survived by three children, Teresa (Richard) Libey of Charlotte, William (Karen) Oster of Mundelein, IL and Lawrence (Nikki) Oster of Ann Arbor; six grandchildren, Tricia Kym, Kristin (Daniel) Freed, Malinda Clark, Tiffany, Nicole and Larry Jr.; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and her close friend, Betty Jean ""B.J."" Taylor. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold L. Oster in 2010; parents, William and Eloda Davis; and two sisters, Ellen Platte and Betty Keelan. Dorothy was an immensely giving and caring person who always enjoyed helping others; over the years, she knitted hundreds of hats for infants and children for the Salvation Army. She was an avid crafter and superb cook. Dorothy loved to garden and collect antiques. Her greenhouse and lovingly tended gardens were a focal point on Fourth Street for years. She and Harold had been active members at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church in Michigan Center as well as Kiwanis of Jackson. Dorothy held various jobs throughout her life but was especially fond of her time at the old Walgreen's in Lansing where she worked at the soda fountain. During WWII and just prior to their marriage, Dorothy helped in the war efforts by working in a factory inserting needles into gauges to be used in B-25 bombers. Dorothy worked as the office manager in her husband's medical practice for many years where his patients loved her as much as their kindly physician. Dorothy was a local activist passionate about a number of issues and was instrumental in blocking the widening of Fourth Street on three occasions. As was her request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. For those who wish, contributions in Dorothy's memory may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 310 N. Main St., Suite 100, Chelsea, MI 48118. Dorothy's family would like to thank the Arbor North Living Center staff for the wonderful care given to her over the last two years.
