Jill B Wilkins

Age 76, of Jackson, MI, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at her home (her garden sanctuary) with her three girls beside her. Jill was born May 31, 1943 in Ann Arbor, MI and was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Dorothy Barrow. Jill is survived by her daughters, Wendy (Tom) Rasmussen, Megan (Mitch) Kulick and Erin Tinnermon; loving grandchildren, Lindsay and Allie Rasmussen, Ben, Maya and Zoe Kulick, and Cooper and McCauley Tinnermon. Jill is also survived by her sister, Lynn (Dave) Kitchen and nieces, Beth (Matt) Poston and Katie Kitchen. Jill was a lifelong Wolverine fan having grown up in Ann Arbor. She graduated from Ann Arbor High in 1961; then attended the University of Michigan earning a BS with distinction in Anthropology & Zoology in 1964, followed by her MA in Education in 1965. It was there she met and married her former husband of 31 years, Jim Wilkins. Before becoming a dedicated stay-at-home mother, she briefly taught high school Biology in Ann Arbor. Jill was an avid gardener and prior to her decline in health was a member of the American and Michigan Hosta Societies and Diggers Garden Club. She was active at the Dahlem Environmental Education Center, was a member of the Women's Medical Auxiliary, and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed painting, playing piano and dulcimer, and loved writing poetry about the natural world. Most of all, she loved being a mom. The family is planning a private memorial service for Jill. There will be a Remembrance Reception follow the Memorial at The Cascades Manor House on October 6, 2019 from 1-3 PM.
