Marcia Joann Meyer (Day)

MEYER (DAY), MARCIA JOANN Age 80, of Parma, was born at home in Napoleon Township on March 3, 1933 and passed away at home on October 10, 2013 after a mighty struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was a loving and one-of-a-kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, relative and friend who will be greatly missed. Marcia is survived by her five children, James (Theresa) Meyer, Karen (Brad) East, Linda (Jack) Tallman, Marc Meyer and Amy (Dennis) King; nine grandchildren, Cara, Kelly, Hannah, Jordan, Megan, Adam, Jimmie, Jack and Annie; seven great-grandchildren, Ian, Madeline, Zachary, Benjamin, Lincoln, Hawkins and Brooklyn; sisters-in-law, Cordelia and Janet Day; brother-in-law, Pat Bruffy; many extended family members, friends and co-workers, all of whom were dear to her. She was preceded in death by her six siblings, Elizabeth (Bob) Boey, Jennie Bruffy, Frances (Irwin) Bloom, Fred (Eva) Day, Bill Day and John Day. Marcia grew up on the family farm and she continued to love her 4-legged family members throughout her entire life. She was a 1951 graduate of Napoleon High School and then earned her BS, RN from Michigan State University in one of the first classes to graduate in that program. She worked for over 30 years as an OB/GYN nurse for Drs. H.K. Filip and Frank Schrader; after which she worked until recently as a RN for many years at the Jackson County Health Department (JCHD). After being nominated by one of her incredible co-workers at the JCHD; on October 5, 2012, Marcia was inducted into the Michigan Nurses Hall of Fame by the Michigan Nurses Association. Her children wish to express heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for the many visits, cards, Facebook and phone call messages their mom received during her illness. There were many euchre games, lunches and evening dinners; good beverages, jokes and colorful stories shared. Her co-workers from the JCHD, the doctor's office and many other family and friends made weekly and sometimes daily visits and could not have been more loving and caring - our mom was so fortunate to have you around her for so many years. As was her request, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service open house to honor her life will be held at the Cascades Manor House, 1970 Kibby Road in Jackson on Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm.
