Alfred John Godfrey, 89, of Summit Township, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 19, 2026. Alfred’s family and friends will gather from 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m., Tuesday May 26, 2026 with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church 913 Napoleon Rd., Michigan Center, Michigan. Burial to take place at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Hillsdale Michigan. Rev. Dr. Amalorpavanathan Rayapillai, SdC, will serve as celebrant.
Alfred was born on September 11, 1936, in Addison, Michigan, to Alfred Sr. and Adeline (Bracht) Godfrey. Alfred attended Hillsdale College and Harvard, earning his MBA. He married the love of his life, Anita Mae Gostola, on November 12, 1955, in Hillsdale, Michigan. They spent nearly 66 happy years together until her passing in 2021. He loved watching sports, especially when his children and grandchildren were playing. During his many years of employment with Goodyear, he traveled to many destinations, including, France, Belgium, Australia, Spain , Mexico and many more places across the globe. After retirement, Alfred shared his gifts by volunteering for his church. He was on the bishop’s counsel in the Diocese of Gaylord, worked in the Manna Pantry, he was a Knights of Columbus member and enjoyed making rosaries. He will be remembered as a kind and quiet man and his greatest joy was his family and spending time with them.
Alfred will be greatly missed by his children, Kevin Godfrey of Pennsylvania, Christopher (Kathy) Godfrey of Michigan, Kelly (Deanna) Godfrey of Michigan, Michael (Mary Kay) Godfrey of Indiana and MaryAnn (Mark) Miller of Virginia; grandchildren, Jeremy, Joshua, Andrea, Sarah, Timothy, Nicholas, Benjamin, Phoebe; and 6 great grandchildren; sister- in- law, Kathy Gostola (Paul) and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Anita and his parents, Alfred Sr. and Adeline Godfrey.
