Allen was a 1961 graduate of Michigan Center High School. He then served the nation in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He began his trade as a CNC Lathe operator for 25 years at Wyman Gordon and 15 years at Kellogg Crankshaft before retiring. He enjoyed visits to casinos and spending time with his family. He had coached Little League with his sons in their youth but his passion later in life was golfing.
