Ann was born on September 18, 1931, in Highland Park, Michigan to Joseph and Sarah (Hart) Hankinson. Ann met the love of her life, Thomas Matthewson, while summering in England. They married in Berwick, England and then moved to Dearborn. They were married for nearly 50 years until his passing. Ann loved the outdoors, whether it be hiking, kayaking, or snow skiing until age 84. She was able to indulge these passions while living up north in the Higgins Lake area. She was a devoted member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Roscommon, Michigan for many years. When she couldn’t be outside, she enjoyed playing the organ, quilting and clogging. After her husband’s passing, she relocated to the Brooklyn area to be near her children.
Ann will be missed by her children, Sally (David) Haupt; Alan (Diane) Matthewson; Mark (Colleen) Matthewson; grandchildren Chris Matthewson; Alison (Chad) Massey; Steven (Kelly) Haupt; Kelly (Adam) Oberhausen; Maggie (Andrew) Matthewson; Philip Matthewson; great grandchildren, Jameson and Lachlan Massey; Finn and Teddy Oberhausen; Ryder Kwiecien and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas; and a brother, Joseph Hankinson.
