Barbara Jean Byrum's Obituary
Barbara Jean Byrum (Bertke Trolz) formerly of Chelsea, passed away Sunday, November 13, 2022 due to complications from dementia. Barb’s family and friends will gather Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at Eineder Funeral Homes (formerly Arthur Day Funeral Home). Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm following the visitation. Interment to be at Norvell Township Cemetery. Rev. Judy Goodrow will officiate.
She was born on December 4, 1942 to Roy and Erma (Dettling) Bertke. Barb was the Norvell Township Clerk for many years. She also worked at Chelsea Hospital and then retired from Spring Arbor University. Barb was actively involved in her children’s lives with Sunday School, 4-H and Farm Bureau. She was a former member of the ABWA and Chelsea Chicks. Barb worked at many elections in Norvell Township and then at Summit Township. She was an elder and member of the St. Johns UCC Church in Jackson.
Barb was known for her cake decorating. She made numerous cakes for birthdays at her church until she could no longer bake. Because of Barb’s love of baking, all three of her kids love to bake and cook. Barb and Carl enjoyed camping, traveling to Arizona, and garage sales.
Barb is survived by her children, Jeff Trolz of Jackson, Angie (Scott) Dodge of Jackson, and Terry (Tonya) Trolz of Lake City; a sister, Marcia Westerbeke of Lake Havasu, AZ; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Bertke of Pebble, SC and Bev Randis of Jackson; grandchildren, Lauren (Aaron) Mabie of Rockford, Nick Trolz of Lake City, and Kyle (Kim Allard) Dodge, Ashley (Aaron) Brown and Logan (Devon) Dodge; great granddaughters, Madelynn and Luna Dodge; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl and a brother David Bertke.
Barb was blessed with excellent care at home from NeCole Hampton and then from Laury Radala and her staff at Garden Estates and finally Henry Ford Jackson Hospice. We can’t thank you enough for helping our Mom by loving on her and taking care of her with the utmost of dignity and respect.
