Bertha May Hills' Obituary
Bertha May Hills, 84, of Brooklyn, MI, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Legacy Assisted Living in Jackson. Bertha’s family and friends gathered at a viewing on Monday, August 11, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Eineder Funeral Homes - Brooklyn Chapel. Her funeral service was held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. following a public visitation from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Eineder Funeral Homes – Brooklyn Chapel. Her son, Pastor David Hill, from Tumalo, OR, officiated.
Bertha was born October 30, 1940, in Parma, Michigan, to Louie and Ruby (Stone) Zoeller. She married the love of her life, John Hills, on January 25, 1964, in Jackson, Michigan. She will be remembered as a strong, independent, farm-raised woman and as a loving mother and grandmother. She loved decorating for Christmas, and enjoyed playing cards, board games, collecting oil lamps and glassware, all in addition to travel and camping. Bertha was a great cook and a hard-working secretary for a CPA firm in Jackson, for many years. She loved county music and in her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and dancing.
Bertha will be missed by her husband of 61 years, John; her children, Pastor David Hills, Ruby (Jim) Chifane, June (Chris Bowman) VanBuskirk and Penny (Rob) Rybinski; grandchildren, Josh, Ashley, Larissa, D.J., Brittany, Matthew, Robert and Isabella; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
