Hendrick, Betty Jo (Spencer)
Age 86, of Ackerson Lake, beautiful and beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend, passed away March 15, 2017. She was born to the late Floyd and Gertrude (maiden-Parker) Spencer March 28, 1930. She graduated from Napoleon High School and worked for Consumers Energy in her youth. In 1948 she met the love of her life, the late Gordon 'Cork' Hendrick, swimming to his boat on Ackerson Lake. They were married 53 years before his death in 2006 and had six children. Betty Jo was creative making one of a kind greeting cards. She enjoyed being the life of the party. She delighted in her family, being a Spencer girl, and especially in her grandchildren. She had an incredible sense of humor, infallible optimism and believed deeply in compassion. She volunteered for St. Mary's, the American Red Cross, Mercy Hospital and the Jackson County Medical Care Facility. She was a member of the Women's Club of Jackson, Amaranth and the Guys and Dolls Dance Club. Even after Alzheimer's Disease took so much of her memory, she was cheerful and sunny. She longed always to reunite with her beloved husband Cork. She will be joyously remembered and loved. She is survived by her children, Jill (Joe) Filip, Janice (Gordon Ebbitt) Hendrick, David (Ann) Hendrick, Gordy (Renee) Hendrick, Christine Hendrick and Shelly (Garred) Kasprzycki, ten grandchildren, two sisters, Jeanne Barrett and Phyllis DeMay, many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Fluehr and Virginia Mierzwa. She attended St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 10 am with Father Tim Nelson officiating. Interment Woodland Cemetery followed by a luncheon back at the church. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday evening 6-8 pm with a Recitation of the Rosary at 8:00 pm.
