AKA, "The Mushroom Man", "The Great White Hunter" and "Jaw Bones"
Age 88, of Napoleon, was born in Napoleon on March 12, 1933 and passed peacefully away in Jackson on December 22, 2021 after having had his hand on the doorknob for several months. He is survived by his son, Charles A. (Charlene) Ray; daughter, C. Jane (Lee) Levknecht (Ray); seven grandchildren, Rocky (Doreen) Ray, Jessi (Adam) Koehler, Melissa (Ed) Hill, Rebecca Ray, Bella Ray, Joshua McAtee and David Ray; eight great-grandchildren, Charles M. Ray, Kalyn R. McAtee, Martin D. Ray, Ezra L. Koehler, Emma L. Ray, Zuri E. Ray, Noah P. Ray and Adriana McNeill; sister, Mary Jo (Richard) Stevenson; three brothers, Richard "Dick" (Tina) Ray, Robert (Esy) Ray and George (Janis) Ray; dear family friend, Vanessa Lowder; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Ray; brothers, John Ray and Gary Ray; sister and brother-in-law, Rachel "Rick" (Jay) Lantis and his parents, Charles M. and Ninabelle (Saunders) Ray.
Charles spent his life teaching those he loved about the wonders that are all around us. As an outdoorsman, he enjoyed birdwatching, gardening and mushroom hunting. He was also an avid reader. Charles spent his working years as a mason; building many foundations across the state. He was also a notorious billiards player who was frequently found at Denton's Den. He is deeply loved and will be missed.
Cremation has taken place and no public services will be held.
