Charles Robert "Bob" Richards' Obituary
Age 74, of Napoleon Township, passed away Saturday December 4, 2021 at McLaren Flint Hospital. He was born in Jackson, Michigan Tuesday September 23, 1947. He is survived by four children; David (Amanda) Richards and Suzanne (Peter) Augustine, Paul Trujillo and Scott (Biljana) Trujillo, grandchildren; Dominic Robert Richards, Sophia, Sydney, Spencer and Sullivan Augustine, Thomas, Jacob, Steven, Holly, Scott Jr., Emma, Isabella Trujillo and Laila Custovic and the mother of his children; Sharon Clarkson. He was preceded in death by his parents; Charles James and Nellie Elizabeth (Lindsey) Richards. Mr. Richards served the nation in the US Army, assigned to the division responsible for the development of night vision, attaining the rank of Captain. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan in Physics and a master's degree from Eastern Michigan University in business. He founded and operated SmithRichards Inc., a light industrial manufacturing company in Michigan for many years. Bob enjoyed golf and played on a league at Pine Hollow Golf Club. He was a patron of and enjoyed the fellowship at Jerry's Pub at Wampler's Lake, Aggies Sports Bar in Napoleon and the Bone Island Grill in Vandercook Lake. An avid reader with a real passion for history, he was the "Human Google" of the family with a widespread knowledge of many fields of interest. He was a member of the U of M Alumni Association and former member of the Napoleon Lions Club. A Memorial Visitation will be held in his honor at the funeral home Friday, December 10, 2021 from 6-8 pm. His cremated remains will be interred at private family services to be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date with full Military Honors. Contributions in his memory are directed to the Napoleon Lions Club White Cane Fund.
