Christopher Daniel Risner's Obituary
Age 29, of Leoni Township, passed away at home November 21, 2018. He is survived by his parents, Julie and Dan Risner; sister, Angela Mentink; nieces, Ellie and Adley Mentink; grandfather, Fred Risner; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents Pat and Norm Ulrich and Pat Miller. Born in Jackson May 13, 1989 he was a 2007 graduate of East Jackson High School where he excelled in basketball which brought joy to many spectators. He spent several of his adult years working with Andy's Angels and local, state and national government officials to help battle the devastating opioid epidemic. Chris was a soldier in the war against addiction; he fought an uphill battle against his own addiction and helped lead the charge in the community hoping to prevent other young people and their families from facing the struggles that he had. By bravely sharing his story he hoped to save lives. His legacy lives on through his nieces and those who continue to fight against this ongoing crisis. Through them, his life will still impact lives. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church (122 W. Wesley, Jackson) with Pastor Scott Sommerfeld officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday November 25 from 3 to 6 pm and at church Monday one hour prior to services. Contributions in his memory are directed to Andy's Angels, 2326 Brooklyn Road, Jackson, MI 49203 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959
