Clyde was born on April 29, 1955, in Jackson, MI, to Homer and Donna (Whiting) VanEpps. He graduated from Vandercook Lake High School in 1973. Clyde married the love of his life, Nancy Jean Bos, on October 3, 1975, in Jackson, MI. Clyde started his career at Muskegon Motors (Wyman-Gordon) as a machinist. He then found a job as a corrections officer for the Southern Michigan Prison, where he retired from after 30 years of service. During his time working as a corrections officer, Clyde was the head Varsity Football and Baseball coach at Hanover Horton High school, his real passion. He spent 25 years coaching at Hanover Horton, and even after retirement, Clyde worked in the maintenance department of the school, caring for the fields. He loved to play golf, go fishing, go ice fishing, do yard work, including gardening, and was a huge fan of the University of Michigan Football team. Clyde was a member of the Horton Congregational Church, where he was a Deacon. He loved being a father to his two boys, plus he was able to be a fatherly figure for hundreds of athletes as a coach. Clyde always said “The 3 most important things in life are the Lord, Family and Michigan Football”. He will be remembered as a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather, who could get along with everyone. Clyde will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Clyde will be missed by his wife, Nancy; his children, Nathan (Caitlyn) VanEpps and Cory VanEpps; his siblings, Cheryl Teegarden, Randy (Tinker) VanEpps and Janice Thomas; his grandchildren, Scarlett VanEpps, George VanEpps, Evelyn VanEpps and 1 on the way; his sister-in-law, Sharon VanEpps; his brother-in-law, Craig (Debbie) Bos; his devoted dog, Rocky; many nieces and nephews, many friends, and the Hanover Horton Community. He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Donna; his brother, Douglas VanEpps, his brothers-in-law, Mike Thomas and John Teegarden; his nephew, Brian “Boomer” VanEpps; his in-laws, Wesley and Evelyn Bos; and his very dear friend, Jim Brian.
