Daniel Ray Wampler's Obituary
Daniel Ray Wampler (Wamp) of Clinton, Michigan, age 69, passed away Sunday April 28, 2024, at his home in Clinton, Michigan. Dan was born August 23, 1954 in Charlotte, Michigan, to Darwin Doyle Wampler and Dorothy Lucielle (Hill) Wampler. Dan was preceded in death by his mother, father and older brother, Darwin Doyle Wampler II. Dan's other brother, Richard Duane Wampler still lives in the house Dan built.
Dan was the third and last child for his folks. Dan was something special and celebrated as such. Dan had a really special relationship with his father (Dan called him Daddy), which lasted throughout their lives.
Dan attended Manchester schools through graduation. Not being much of an academic, Dan enjoyed other activities. He loved sports, and even played basketball. He also enjoyed the lovely ladies he dated, but never married, and had no children.
Once graduated, Dan continued to work on the farm as he had through high school, until the farm was sold. He then had various jobs, until he helped brother Richard build a house. This building experience planted the seed that would grow into a career. The career would be his life's work.
Dan worked for and with various construction jobs, all the while learning his trade. Dan learned it well. He not only became a fine rough carpenter. He also became a great finish carpenter. These skills put Dan in demand as a builder. As his career continued, he made many friends.
When I(brother Richard) decided to build my retirement home, Dan was my contractor. Dan allowed me to help and didn't charge me extra! I was amazed at the skills Dan had developed; he was great. To this day I live in the house Dan built.
Aside from being a great builder, Dan was an avid gardener, a great cook, a canner of his produce, and a little old wine maker. On the day of Dan's passing, we drank a toast with Dan's wine.
He remained a sports fan for life. He played baseball, on what I think would be called a traveling team for one of the local businesses. He rooted for the Detroit teams and was never available on Thanksgiving (go Lions). Dan enjoyed Michigan football as well and managed a trip to the Rose Bowl. And like anyone who grew up in the 60s he was a fan of the spectacular Packers!
Dan was a great brother, and a great friend. Dan will be dearly missed.
We were about to celebrate Dan's seventieth birthday this August, and we still can, but the guest of honor can't make it. Dan has a hot building job elsewhere.
Please leave a message of comfort for Dan’s family or sign his guestbook at www.EinederFuneralHomes.com.
Please join together to remember him for all he meant to us for Dan:
now that winter winds are gone
dick wampler 3-30-73
as winter now to summer turns
a restless fire within me burns
a longing to travel on
now that winter winds are gone
each spring day brings new fire
to kindle each flame of desire
of a place for which i often long
now that winter winds are gone
the spring nights fill with stars
each inviting me afar
to lure me off before the dawn
now that winter winds are gone
but now each burning ember dies
and i release a restless sigh
i'll sit and listen to summers song
now that winter wind are gone
A celebration of life to be announced at a future date.
