Darrell was the owner of Superior Production Welding for over twenty-five years where he built many enduring friendships with both his employees and customers alike. Darrell loved being outdoors and was an avid private pilot, enjoyed boating, and was a gardening enthusiast. He and Gerry were members of the Christian Motorcycle Riders Association and spent many hours on his Harley-Davidson. He and Gerry cherished their country and spent many winters exploring warmer places in their RV, making new friends wherever they stopped. Darrell loved to spoil his grand and great-grandchildren and was the quintessential role model for his family. He attended and even participated in their sporting and school events. Whether it was sing-a-longs with Santa at the mall or staying for the second overtime at a football game, he was always there rooting for his family. An athlete himself, he especially liked swimming and track, participating in countless foot races for charity, family swim meets at the YMCA, and even completing the Detroit marathon on his fiftieth birthday. Every morning after reading his bible, he relished being the first person to wish a happy birthday or anniversary; nearly every morning he phoned a friend, colleague, former employee, or grandchild.
Cremation has taken place and a private graveside service will be held this week at Roseland Memorial Gardens where his remains will be buried together with his wife.
A celebration of his beautiful life will be held on Darrell's birthday this spring, Saturday, April 2nd. Please save the date, and more details will be forthcoming closer to the event.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice in Darrell's name.
