David Leo Tumey's Obituary
David Leo Tumey
October 1, 1940 – December 31, 2025
Born to Lillian and Frank Tumey in Michigan Center, Michigan, Dave remained a lifelong resident of Jackson County, where he was deeply connected to his family and community.
A proud graduate of Michigan Center High School, Dave was an athlete who carried his love of sports throughout his life. He later became a softball coach, where he was well loved and fondly remembered by players and families alike. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s sporting, musical, and other events, offering unwavering support and encouragement.
Dave was an electrician and a proud union member of IBEW Local 252 for 63 years, a career he valued deeply. He attended the union proudly alongside his children and grandchildren annually.
Dave worked hard throughout his life and helped anyone he could. He enjoyed karaoke and card games, along with years of hunting and fishing. He loved his fellow employees, neighbors, and friends at Aggies, Napoleon Schools, and the Napoleon Café.
Known for his sense of humor and legendary “Dad jokes,” Dave truly loved everyone and was someone who could not hold a grudge. His warmth, humble kindness, and lighthearted spirit made people feel welcome wherever he went. Dave was a trusted listener to people of all ages.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Tumey, and by his children and their families:
Lisa Monk (Christopher), and her children Joseph W. Polger; Jamie Smith (Christopher), and her daughter Luna Smith; Ethan Monk; and Emily Taylor (Zackary), and her daughter, Auden Taylor.
Sue Bell (Steve), and her son Brian Bell (Becky), and his daughter Bridgette Bell.
David Mark Tumey (Beth), and his children Christian Tumey and Mariah Tumey.
Stephanie Palmer (Steve), and her children Alex Aldighieri, Rachael Palmer, and Sydney Palmer.
Heidi Tumey, and her children Olivia Tumey ( Michael Hulburt), and her son Krue Hulburt, and Javen Tumey-Patterson ( Kelsey Bradley)
Also surviving is his brother, Evert Tumey (Pauline), his lifelong best friend. He was preceded in death by his parents and other siblings and is fondly remembered by his many close and cherished nieces and nephews. He will be missed. The world is a better place because he lived here.
