Dawn Denise Sussex's Obituary
Dawn Denise Sussex, 56, of Grass Lake, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026 at home with her loving family by her side. Dawn’s family and friends will gather Wednesday, January 7, 2026 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at Harmony Baptist Church, 6475 Ann Arbor Road, Jackson, MI 49201. Her funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm. Pastor Rod Walker will be officiating .
She was born on September 25, 1969 in Jackson, Michigan to Christopher and Diane (Taylor) Barber. She will be remembered for her heart of gold. Dawn was a loving daughter, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She was kind, funny and witty. Dawn was one of a kind. During her courageous battle with cancer, she kept a positive attitude and made peace with God. Dawn attended the Harmony Baptist Church in Jackson. Earlier she enjoyed golfing, camping up north with her family and driving the two tracks with her Jeep. Dawn was a very giving person and will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Dawn is survived by her two sons, Theodore Gomez and Christopher (Ashley) Gomez; her mother, Diane Barber; siblings, Debra (Scott) Tefft, Kristine Toth and John Barber; 13 grandchildren and her best friend, Makayla Clark. She is preceded in death by her father, Christopher Barber.
