Dennis Edward Wayne's Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Edward Wayne, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Dennis, also known as Dennis "Yoder" in Grass Lake, passed away on the morning of November 19, 2023 from complications of ALS. Dennis was 74 years old. He loved his family. His daughters meant the world to him.
Dennis retired in 1999 as an electrician from Ford Motor Company. He was a Journeyman and member of the United Auto Workers Union #182. He was a passionate, talented, and meticulous woodworker. For many years, he crafted hundreds of toys for the Union's charitable Christmas events. Never one to be idle, Dennis filled his retirement helping at Yoder Signs, fabricating and installing signs. He leaves behind many beautiful craft pieces in homes and towns across the country.
Dennis was a consummate softball player, playing left field and amazing crowds with his speed. Dennis was able to visit with his former softball coach and players before he passed. He enjoyed going to Ryan's in Grass Lake for lunch. Before his illness progressed, he volunteered for the Michigan Military Heritage Museum and the Lost Railway Museum.
Dennis loved the outdoors and being in the woods. He built his home in the woods of Jerome, Michigan behind the home of the woman who became the love of his life, Lynda. They married on January 28, 2011. People often ask her where she found Dennis. Her answer was always, "I found him in my backyard!". She also says God brought him to her.
Dennis was preceded in death by his father Eugene Wayne. He is survived by his wife Lynda; his daughters Vanessa Lee, Mellissa Pivko, and Julianne Yoder; his siblings Linda Brennan (Terry), Patrick Wayne (Diane), Peggy Stachurski (Rick), Rick Wayne, and Gary Wayne; his grandchildren Branko Pivko, Gavin Lee, Miles Lee, Ian Pivko, and Rowen Lee; and his mother Agnes Wayne.
Dennis will be remembered as the first to help and the first to laugh. We will never forget his unending devotion or his interminable humor. An introvert at heart, his generosity for family and community are his legacy. We are grateful for the staff of Henry Ford Allegiance Home Hospice and the Hospice Home. Thank you so much for caring for him.
The family will not be holding any services but will have a celebration of Dennis's life in the spring.
