Donald Harmon Wetzel's Obituary
Donald H. Wetzel, 94, of Jackson passed away at Countryside Care Center on December 24, 2023. Donald’s family and friends will gather Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at Eineder Funeral Homes – Michigan Center Chapel (Formerly Arthur-Day Funeral Home). His funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 3:00 p.m. at Eineder Funeral Homes – Michigan Center Chapel. There will be a private burial at Highland Cemetery.
Donald was born on September 8, 1929, in Jackson, Michigan to Herman and Wilma (Gaukroger) Wetzel. He was a 1947 graduate of Jackson High School. He entered the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. After leaving the Army, Donald began a 32-year career at Consumers Power first as a surveyor and then as a draftsman. Donald married the love of his life, the late Diane Way, on November 14, 1970, in Jackson, Michigan. He was very active and spent decades of his life in various golf and bowling leagues. He was also an avid fisherman. Donald was a very strong believer in donating blood; he personally donated gallons during his lifetime. He was a member of the Jackson Moose Lodge. In his later years, after retirement, Donald enjoyed doting on his grandchildren and traveling with Diane, especially to Traverse City.
Donald will be greatly missed by his children, Selys (Steve) Perry and Cynthia (Terry Feichtenbiner) Wetzel; step-children, Mark (Doreen) Wolf, Lisa (Matthew) Watson and Laurie (Rye) Eggerstedt; grandchildren, Tara Myers, Greg Perry, Sean and Sam Feichtenbiner, Bobby Ewing II, Jillee Horn, Ryan, Nick, Philip and Amy Wolf, Matthew Ratliff, Jenna Watson and Josh Watson, with whom he shared a special relationship; and five great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Phillip Wetzel, Barbara Glick and Diane Fiener.
