Dorothy Jeane McDaniel's Obituary
A vibrant, fun-loving and beautiful 90 year old soul joined her husband of 54 years, Sunday, April 19, 2015. Formerly of Clarklake and Michigan Center, she spent her last 11 happy months with her friends at Arbor North Living Center. She was born in Columbus, Ohio, Dec. 21, 1924, the daughter of Carl and Dorothy (Comstock) Agel and was raised in Cleveland, where she graduated from Rhodes High School in 1943. She married Glenn E. McDaniel on her 21st birthday, 1945 in Columbus. She and Glenn moved to Michigan Center, MI where they raised their three children who survive: Bonnie J. (Lynn) Van Wagnen, Glenn E. Jr. (Mary) McDaniel and Scott A. (Toni) McDaniel. As was typical of the 1950's, Dorothy stayed home when her children were young and was an active community volunteer. Later her jobs included: licensed cosmetologist, ""Girl Friday"" in the Personnel Dept. at Sparton Electronics, Executive Secretary for Airmaster, licensed realtor and Office Manager in her son-in-law's medical practice. She held dear her ever-expanding family and enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, singing (be it in the choir or on stage), cooking, and reading. A life-long learner and lively conversationalist, she mastered the computer to stay in contact with friends and family here and abroad, forwarding jokes and good wishes. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother Clark. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many friends. A memorial service to honor her life will be Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, MI, with visitation at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., Reverend Christine Barnes officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Educational Foundation for Columbia Schools, 11775 Hewitt Rd., Brooklyn, MI 49230, Allegiance Hospice Home/Allegiance Health Foundation, 205 N. East Ave., Jackson, MI 49201 or Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, 160 N. Main Street, Brooklyn, MI 49230 of which she was a member. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Lynn C. Van Wagnen, M.D. for his skillful excellence and love and Kevin Ganton for his enthusiasm and caring.
