Douglas D Stevens' Obituary
Stevens, Douglas D. Age 91, of Michigan Center, passed away September 19, 2012 at Allegiance Health. He is survived by his son, Mark (Cathy) Stevens; two grandsons, Charles D. (Heather) Stevens and Timothy M. (Natasha) Stevens; two step-grandsons, Jon (ChaiAnn) and David Church; great-grandchildren, Elliott D. and Oliver P. Stevens; step-great-grandchildren, Brittany, Tylyn, Haley, Haidyn and Bryce Church, Jayden Wetzel and Alena Lewis; brother-in-law, Charles F. (Susan) Stone; and his ""grand dog"", Henri. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marian L. (Stone) Stevens; his parents, John W. and Mildred B. (Demorest, Holmes, Van Antwerp) Stevens and his two step-fathers, Russell Holmes and Bruce Van Antwerp. He was a life long machinist at Wyman Gordon (formerly Muskegon Motors) where he worked for 44 years; served his nation in the US Army, World War II ETO where he was a Master Sergeant and fought in the Battle of the Bulge; graduated from Michigan Center High School in 1939 where he excelled in sports, was one of the last three surviving members of the MC 1936 State Championship Football Team and was an avid golfer who enjoyed the game with his late wife and their large circle of friends. Doug was an attentive dad, grandpa and great pa pa and will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday 1-3 pm followed by a Time of Remembrance, where his family will share their lore and love of this man. The Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team will then perform the Military Memorial Honors. Contributions in his memory are directed to Michigan Center Cardinal Club.
