Elwyn C. Gieske's Obituary
Age 92, of Norvell, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at his home under the loving care of his family and Great Lakes Caring Hospice. Elwyn is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Myrtle E.; four children, Edwin L. (Kim) Gieske, Carol L. Gieske, Susan M. Vogt and Edward C. (Linda) Gieske; 11 grandchildren, Piper, Nick, Kris, Brock, Danielle, Angie, Heather, Stacey, Stephanie, Bruer and Briiah; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was born at Sharon Township to parents, Clarence and Mana (Frey) Gieske and they preceded him in death as well as his brother, Donald Gieske. Elwyn retired from Ford Motor Co. after 31 years of service, working at plants in Sharon Hollow, Brooklyn, Manchester, Ypsilanti and Saline; during his tenure there, he was the recipient of the much honored ""Citizenship Award""; he then worked several years for Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home. Known to many as the ""Mayor of Norvell"", Elwyn held positions as Township Supervisor and Clerk. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and was Life Member (69 years) and Past Master of Napoleon Masonic Lodge #301. He was a lifelong member of the Norvell Community Baptist Church and was on its Board of Trustees for over 56 years where a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00 am with Pastor Ned Bernstein officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm with a Masonic Memorial at 7:30 pm.
