Eraina Wilhelmine Seltmann, 87, passed away May 1, 2020. She was born on May 6, 1932 in Bad Mergentheim, Germany to Christian and Wilhelmine (Hägele) Schumm. She was the youngest of four daughters. In 1952, Eraina married her first husband Norman Maples in her hometown and then immigrated to the United States, living in the Jackson area throughout her adult life. She moved through the world and her life with grit and grace. Eraina later married Arthur Seltmann, on November 6, 1976, in Jackson, Michigan. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and “Omi” to her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known among family and friends for her immaculate gardens, cooking grand meals, and for being a generous hostess to many. She strived to preserve culture and family traditions, making them a central part of every holiday, picnic, and gathering. Her fire and hunger for life gave her a presence that resonated with many, while her quick wit, generosity, and beauty of spirit will be missed by her family and all who shared her table.
Eraina will be missed by her sons, Chris (Kathy) Maples and Jeff Maples, daughter Heidi Sulivan, stepson Steven (Mary) Seltmann; seven grandchildren Scott (Kathleen)
Maples, Jaime Maples, Erin Ryan, Cheyanne Maples, Shiloh (Luke Schmerberg)Maples, Julia Seltmann, April Seltmann; eight great grandchildren Gabby, Parker, Addison, Baliegh, Drew, Jacob, Meia, and Mikala. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, and husband of 43 years, Arthur.
A private visitation and service will take place at Eineder's Borek Jennings Funeral Home: Brooklyn Chapel. Deacon Chris Vida of St. Rita Catholic Church to officiate. Burial to take place at Roseland Memorial Garden. Memorial contributions may be given to family for future designation.
