Eric Fritz Schirmacher's Obituary
Eric Fritz Schirmacher, 73, of Brooklyn passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at home under the care of Residential Hospice. Eric’s family and friends will gather Monday, December 23, 2024 from 11:00 am – 11:30 am at St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church. His mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 am followed by his interment at St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Zachary Mabee will serve as celebrant.
He was born on June 13, 1951 in Jackson, Michigan to Hans and Darlene (Ettig) Schirmacher. Eric married the love of his life, Deborah Plate, on December 15, 1972, in Adrian, Michigan. He will be remembered for his total devotion to his family. Eric was a great husband and dad, caring grandfather and a hard worker. He is a graduate of Brooklyn High School, class of 1969 and received his bachelor’s degree in business from Spring Arbor University. Eric proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. He loved living on the lake, and was an avid outdoors sportsman. Eric took his son’s on an annual deer camp adventures in Arkansas. He loved watching old game shows and westerns on television. Eric always made sure he attended all of his kids and grandkids events. He even coached his children’s sports. Eric was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his faithful fur companion, Maverick.
Eric is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Deborah; his children, E. Fritz (Julie) Schirmacher II, Jessica (Rich) Trail, J. Ryan (Melissa) Schirmacher, Andy (Angie) Schirmacher, Spencer (Katie) Schirmacher and Gabriel (Carsyn) Schirmacher; sisters, Pam Eberenz, Denine Wells and Lisa Keesler; grandchildren, Nicholas, Hannah, Gavin, Bailee, Parker, Chase, Ava, Mia, Emmy and Sofia; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Darlene Schirmacher.
