Euna was born in Holcomb, MO. She struck out on her own traveling to Michigan at the young age of 18. After a short stay in Flint Michigan, she moved to Jackson Michigan. She learned Gregg shorthand and became a skilled stenographer and was hired by Vernors Company in Jackson for $15 a week for a six day week. Work was hard and left little time for a social life, but her work friends invited her to a roller skating party at Clark Lake. While skating, a very large drunk gentleman ran into her knocking her down. A nice "fresh faced" young man, as she put it, named Walt McUmber helped her up after which they sat and talked the rest of the evening. After a whirlwind romance they were married. Walt was drafted for WWII January 17, 1943 after they had been married only a few months. Walt was soon sent to Fort Jackson in Columbia SC for eventual deployment to Europe. By March, 1943 Euna couldn't stand the separation and boarded a train to join her husband in Columbia SC. Euna and Walt were apart for several years while Walt was in Europe. During the war, Euna returned to Jackson and worked for Aeroquip as one of its first employees and built up a thriving Stanley Products business where, at the peak, she had recruited a "staff" of 10. Then, to Euna's great jubilation, Walt finally returned home on a Greyhound bus in January 1946. This was their only time apart. Euna was very industrious and always worked hard. By the time Walt came home she had a good office job and the Stanley Products business was doing well. She left those jobs to start a family, and then for a while, times were not as good. After the War, Walt had several jobs and Euna worked for the Air Force Office for Mr Schwinn (then an Air Force officer) of Schwinn bicycles. In 1948, her first son, Bill, was born. In 1957 her second son, Jim, was born. Also in 1957 Euna and Walt decided to establish McUmber Television. As always, they were inseparable while running the business together, which they did for 40 years. Euna had the inner drive that many lack to make the business progress and be successful, and it was. All during this time Euna and Walt worked hand in hand and were inseparable. A few years later, her third child, daughter Terrie was born. Now she was raising three kids while running a business full time. Euna was also a dedicated and active member of Ganson Street Baptist Church for many years where she served as a Deaconess. In 1997 Euna and Walt decided to retire and bought a winter home in Bradenton FL. There they made many friends. Walt passed in January, 2005 in Florida at their home. Euna had a difficult time after losing her soulmate but her inner strength showed through as she carried on, as she always had, until the end. Visitation will be at the Arthur-Day Funeral Home in Michigan Center Sunday, February 6 at 3:00-5:00 pm and on Monday one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be at Arthur-Day Monday, February 7, 2022 at 12:00 noon, procession to Roseland Cemetery to follow. Interment will be next to her beloved husband.
