Francis Russell Ely Sr.'s Obituary
Francis Russell Ely, Sr., 78, of Brooklyn, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, Friday, January 6, 2023. Fran’s family and friends will gather Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm and Wednesday, January 11, 2023 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Eineder Funeral Homes - Brooklyn Chapel. His funeral service will follow visitation on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 11:00 am. Pastor John “Chuck” Calhoun will serve as celebrant.
He was born on October 12, 1944, in Morenci, Michigan to Francis and Elsie (Morley) Ely. Fran married the love of his life, Sharon Daugherty, on June 3, 1967, at the Manitou Beach Bible Church, Manitou Beach, Michigan. He will be remembered as a happy man that never met a stranger, loved his family and was completely devoted to his wife, his soulmate. Fran was always willing to lend a helping hand and could be found riding around the campground, the Ted Ranch Campground, in a golf cart or lawn mower greeting the guests. He is a graduate of Morenci High School, class of 1965. In his spare time, he enjoyed sitting on the deck reading a book. Earlier in his life he enjoyed bowling and belonged to several leagues. He also was a member/ trustee of the Fraternal Order of Eagles club and an avid hunter. Fran retired from Dura Convertible Systems in Adrian, Michigan after 39 years. He had a favorite expression “Alright” and a contagious laugh, that the family will always remember fondly. Fran was a hard worker that will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.
Fran is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sharon; his children, Francis “Rusty” Ely, Jr., and Tammie (Scott) Bearden; brothers, Joseph (Marty) Ely and Bill (Jennifer) Ely; grandchildren Brianne, Brittany, John, Alicia, Kayla and Ava; great grandchildren Grayson, Rylie, Grace, Claire, Oliver, Hunter, Ila, Colson and Sonny; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Elsie; and brothers, Rodney, Rex and Larry.
