Frederick Roman Prettenhofer's Obituary
Frederick Roman Prettenhofer, 94, of St. Pete Beach, Florida, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024, surrounded by family. His family and friends will gather on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 4:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Eineder Funeral Homes – Michigan Center Chapel (Formerly Arthur-Day Funeral Home), with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary. On Monday March 18, 2024, family and friends will gather from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. His funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Tim Nelson will serve as celebrant.
Frederick was born on February 6, 1930, in Vienna, Austria, to Peter and Marie (Matzinger) Prettenhofer. He moved from Austria to Canada at 21 years old. Frederick married Maria Sailer on October 1, 1955, and spent nearly 60 years together, until her passing in 2015. In 1961 they moved to Dearborn, and Frederick began working as a salesman for Eastside Buick. Less than one year later they moved to Grand Blanc, and he started his hospitality business called Colonial Motel. In 1970, Frederick purchased the Colonial Inn in Jackson, and shortly thereafter moved his family to the Jackson area. Frederick will be remembered as a loving and devoted father and grandfather, who lived an “excellent” life. His passions were sailing, wild game hunting, and skiing. Frederick loved dancing the waltz, often drawing in a crowd of onlookers. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Frederick will be missed by; his children, Caron (David) Wootten, David (Valerie) Prettenhofer, Marc (Ed Roche) Prettenhofer, Kurt (Andrew Adair) Prettenhofer, and James (Renee) Prettenhofer; grandchildren, Andrea (Jason), Jacob, Annelise, Michael (Jessica), Daniel (June), Nicholas (Keisha), Anthony (Kelsey), Rachel, Caitlin (Thomas), Alexandra (Adam), Josephine, Gabriella, and Jamie-Grace; many great grandchildren; nephew, Fritz (Karin) Prettenhofer; and by his girlfriend of seven years, Chris Rushlow. He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Marie Prettenhofer, and his siblings, Raymund, Leo, and Paula.
