George K. Truchan's Obituary
George Kenneth Truchan, 68, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side, Thursday, June 27th, 2024. George’s family and friends will gather on July 15th, 2024, at Eagles Nest Restaurant, 1200 Eagle Point Road, Clarklake, MI 49234 from 2p-6p for a Celebration of Life.
George was born on December 27th, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan to George and Lavina (Eldred) Truchan. George married Sheila Anne (Lane) Truchan in 1978 and had two loving boys, Douglas, and Jay. George and his two sons sustained great suffering when Sheila tragically passed away from illness. Widowed George found love again after his loss and married Melinda Schwyn on July 11, 2014, in Key West, Florida.
It is with great sadness that his family and the entire community mourn the unexpected loss of this extraordinary man. George was raised in Detroit and subsequently became a police officer after graduating high school in 1974. George continued his higher education journey and obtained his Juris Doctor from Cooley Law School in 1983. George continued both law enforcement and attorney careers throughout his entire life, as he was a working certified police officer with the Napoleon Township Police Department until his last breath.
George moved his family out to the Jackson County area in the late 1980’s, as he opened a law office to practice within the community and became a high revered Attorney. George held many hats over the years within his life, as he obtained professional and honorable titles of Police Chief, Public Safety Director, Sheriff Captain, Police Lieutenant, Police Sergeant, Patrol Officer, Court Magistrate, Court Director, and Attorney at law.
George was known by many people within the area, and some might say he was described as the man, the myth, the legend. George had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need or provide assistance in any way he could. George was fun, loving, caring, inspiring, educated, respected, studious, well read, and extremely detailed with his work, but would always be able to make people laugh. George was a relationship builder, as he connected people to come together and enjoy life without stress or conflicts.
George gave his heart, time, and efforts to the community, as he provided citizens with legal remedies through his law office and public safety within police departments, as he was able to capture active bank robbers, and criminals over the years, along with giving separate counsel to people in need of help. This giant loss has not only impacted George’s family, but will affect the entire tri-county area, law enforcement family, court family and friends.
George was a member of the sons of the American Legion, State Bar Association of Michigan, several law enforcement organizations, and was appointed legal practice to the United States Supreme Court.
George enjoyed boating, golfing, traveling, scuba diving, music, and dancing. George was enthusiastic about his hometown of Detroit and Motown, as he had fond memories growing up there. George really enjoyed watching the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Lions, frequenting as many games as his time would allow.
George was extremely passionate about a specific location and had a destination love, as his most treasured time was spent in Key West, Florida. He aspired to retire there and live out his golden years there with his wife, Melinda by his side. George will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
George is survived by his loving wife, Melinda; sons Douglas (Meghan) Truchan and Jay (Kelly) Truchan; stepdaughters, Chelsea (Jeff) Ulfig, Heather (Jared) Grandy and Racquel (Cole) Knaup; Grandchildren, Maximus Truchan, Harper and Casten Knaup, Fitzgerald and Lucy Grandy, Liam and Charlotte Ulfig. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, and wife.
