Gerald “Jerry” Schweda
08/08/1940 – 05/27/2026
Gerald “Jerry” Schweda, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026, at the Henry Ford Hospice Home, surrounded by those who loved him.
Born in 1940, Jerry was the youngest child of Leo and Helen Schweda. He grew up with a deep appreciation for family and in 1967, he married Cynthia “Tina” Planeta. Together they built a loving home and raised four children: Stacey, Brian, Jodie, and Kevin. When the children were young, the family enjoyed camping every summer, creating many cherished memories that the children carried with them throughout their lives.
Jerry and Tina shared 58 wonderful years of marriage before Tina’s sudden passing in October 2025.
Jerry dedicated 30 years of service to Jackson Community College, where he was respected for his hard work and commitment. Following retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Tina on bus trips to various casinos, sharing many enjoyable experiences together.
An avid hunter and outdoorsman, Jerry eagerly anticipated deer hunting season each year. Whether in the woods or simply enjoying nature, he found great joy in the outdoors. He was also a lifetime member of the local YMCA, where he remained active throughout his life. He enjoyed racquetball, handball, and swimming, and in his younger years participated in numerous local races. Later in life, he embraced pickleball and golf bringing the same enthusiasm and competitive spirit that characterized many of his pursuits.
Jerry will be remembered for his dedication to family, his active lifestyle, his quiet strength, and his kind heart. He valued hard work, cherished time spent with loved ones, and set an example of perseverance and commitment for those around him.
He is survived by his children, Stacey, Brian, Jodie, Kevin, and a special niece, Kerstan Tansley, who is an invaluable part of the family, along with extended family and many friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Tina; his parents, Leo and Helen Schweda; his brothers, Leonard, Richard, and Jimmy Schweda; and his sisters, Eleanor, Joanne, and Delores.
May he rest in peace.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 11th, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 913 Napoleon Rd. Michigan Center, Michigan. The family will receive guests at 10am, service at 11am followed by a luncheon.
The family would like to express gratitude and appreciation for all the nurses who aided in our father’s care at the Hospice Home. Also a special thanks to Kerstan Tansley for helping with the care and treatment of our father.
