Gisela Maria Poetschke's Obituary
Gisela Maria Poetschke, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at her home in Grand Rapids. She was born on October 31, 1927, in Karlsruhe, Germany to Herman and Christencia (Fricker) Holz. Gisela married the love of her life, Paul Poetschke, on December 27, 1952, in Germany. She will be remembered as a very generous, caring person. Her hospitality and nurturing ways were known by all. Gisela was honored by many upon her retirement, of many years, as a social worker. She loved her garden and flowers, but truly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Gisela treasured reading, learning, and encouraging others in their education efforts. She had lots of energy and enjoyed the outdoors but also enjoyed classical music and attending symphony performances. Gisela was strong in her faith of God and family, writing many letters to those abroad to keep in touch. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Gisela is survived by her husband of 68 years, Paul; her children, Rebecca (Alan) Poetschke – Snider, and Christopher (Lorie) Poetschke; a brother Winfred Holz and sister Imelda Holz; grandchildren Adam, Emily, Shannon and Heather; great grandchildren Harvey, Huron and Dakota; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Gisela’s family and friends will gather Saturday, January 9, 2021 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Shrine Catholic Church, Brooklyn, Michigan. Very Rev. David Hudgins, J.C.L. will serve as celebrant. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Brooklyn Food Pantry. COVID-19 mandates and social distancing guidelines will be observed.
