It was in the early 70’s Don Terry and l were in a police chase in southeast Ann Arbor. Greg’s residence was in that location and he heard the chase on his police scanner along with our siren. We came down his street and Greg was standing there as the car approached him he threw two tomatoes hitting the windshield of the fleeing car. A few streets later the car stopped and the driver was arrested. While being handcuffed the driver said “Hey man what was that” Don and l laughed and pointed to the tomatoes on his. Dave Miller

Char, Sean and the rest of the Stewart Family--

We are so sorry for your loss. We are proud to have served with Detective Greg "Scotty" Stewart at the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Greg was an outstanding detective and always made time to help younger officers. Whether it was providing officer safety tips or teaching an officer how to put together a prosecutable case, Greg treated everyone with a smile, a kind word and proper instruction.

Greg also liked to laugh. Like the time he and I were riding together in SIU and he got me singing a rather bawdy song and unbeknownst to me had keyed up the police radio microphone so that my melodious voice could be shared with the entire crew. I am pretty sure some of the words of that tune may have violated FCC regulations, but it provided a great laugh for SIU.

Later after his retirement, from the AAPD, Greg, joined the Freemasons and became my Brother in the Craft.

Greg was a cop's cop and Greg and Char were two of the very nicest people on the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Our deepest condolences to the entire family and to Greg... far thee well Worshipful Brother until we meet again.

My first memory of Greg was in a restaurant! My wife had arranged a date for her sister to have dinner with us and a guy that she worked with. We had a good meal and a lot of conversation. As we talked, I noticed this guy at the bar watching us. We had a great meal and left but this guy was still at the bar when we left, he was still there! Some time later I met Greg and got a bit of a chewing out! He expressed that he wasn't going to lose that Seitz Girl! I apologized and told him that I was sorry, but I had not known that he was interested and that I wouldn't get involved again and if there is anything that I can do to help, Yell!

Later Greg and I were on a hunting trip out west in Idaho! We were walking along a river and out of nowhere Greg said thanks for helping me get that Seitz Girl! I replied that I had very little to do with their relationship, but I'm glad that all is working well.

I had the pleasure of working with Greg as a young detective in the early 1990s. Greg always treated the new detectives with respect, passing on a wealth of knowledge and experience.

Greg was a mentor and a teacher. "Greg," I said one day, "Are you busy?" His response, "Yeh, but what do you need?"

I said a few years after he retired that we should have given him a plaque at retirement with the words:

"One Class Act"

Greg was a true and trusted friend. he will be sorely missed!! When my son was riding in the finals of the world Quarter Horse show in Oklahoma, i called Greg on the spur of the moment and we drove straight thru 16 hrs to see him show. He didnt even blink, just hopped in the car and we went. He was a caring and supportive friend who was always there when needed and always willing to lend a hand.
May his memory be a blessing.
