Harold B. ""Hop"" Anderson's Obituary
Hop Anderson, aged 85, of Clarklake, Michigan, passed away Friday, February 20, 2015. He was born on February 7, 1930 to John and Anna Anderson in Tecumseh, Michigan. Hop is survived by his wife of 58 years Nancy, daughter Angela Anderson, son Eric (Stefanie) Anderson, Grandsons Ian Anderson and Michael (Andrea) Haydo and Great Grand Daughter Olivia. As the youngest of 6 siblings Harold leaves many nieces, nephews and their families, his beloved Clarklake family, his hometown of Tecumseh family, and his Lion's Club family. Hop graduated from Tecumseh High School, class of 1948 and went on to serve 4 years in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After the war, he returned home and enrolled in MSU. His parents moved to Clarklake to open Lakeside Grocery, asking him instead to join their business. He became owner of ""Hop's Lakeside Grocery"" and remained there for 25 years. Hop changed careers mid life and became an employee of the United States Postal Service as a rural route carrier for 16 years. Many people remember the ""Hop Wave"" from his mail car. People wonder how many hats a person can wear? Looking at the accomplishments of Hop, the answer would be many. He was on the Volunteer Fire Department 22 years, drove school bus for 22 years, volunteered at Allegiance Hospital for 15 years, was a Boy Scout Leader, processed deer during hunting season, was a member of the American Legion in Tecumseh, and what he considered one of his biggest loves-an International Lion's Club member. Hop was awarded a 50 year service award as a Charter Member in the Clarklake Lions Club this past November. He held many positions within the organization giving him the opportunity to guide and teach others the importance of Philanthropy. He received the Melvin Jones Award, 2 times, which is a high honor. He was a District Governor and held the position of Council Chairperson. Hop Anderson had many interests. He was athletic, he hunted in Wyoming with his best friends, and he traveled. Hop and Nancy traveled 49 states in North American and many countries of the world. He had the gift of making friends easily. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the Clarklake Community Church, Hyde Road, Clarklake, Michigan with a party afterward. People can meet with family and friends from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM in the fellowship hall and then move in to the Sanctuary from Noon to 1:00 PM to share stories about Hop. At 1:00 a luncheon will be held to gather again and share great memories. Hop's most favorite project to support was the Penrickton Center for Blind Children. A place where multi-disabled children are cared for.
