IdaMae R. Hawkins' Obituary
Age 84, of Jackson, went home to be with her Savior on Monday, April 5, 2021. Those left to remember her are six children, Deborah DeKarske, Rachel (Joe) DeKarske, Mark (Joyce) Hawkins, Dan (Mary) Fletcher, Gary (Amy) Fletcher and Sarah Hawkins (fiancé Luke Rowe); 32 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosey Higgins; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lowell Wayne Hawkins in 2016; daughter, Eunice; son-in-law, Michael DeKarske and daughter-in-law, Loretta Hawkins. Ida was a summa cum laude graduate of Spring Arbor University. She worked as a secretary with Northwest Schools and retired as a social worker with LifeWays. Her favorite occupation was that of mother to her children as well as to dozens of foster children over the years. Ida enjoyed crocheting, baking, playing cards and bingo. She was a member of Pathway Community Church, 5225 Clinton Road (M-50), Jackson, MI 49201 where a funeral service to honor her life will be held on Monday, April 12, 2021 at 11:00 am with Reverend Todd W. Frederick officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 4 to 7 pm and on Monday beginning at 10 am. Interment at Leoni Cemetery will take place at 2:00 pm Monday.
