Ivan Carl Brooks' Obituary
Ivan Carl Brooks, age 89, of Brooklyn, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2026.
Funeral services for Ivan will be held at 11 am Monday, January 12th at Eineder Funeral Homes – Brooklyn Chapel, with Pastor Matt Plott officiating. Visitation will take place prior to the service at the funeral home at 10 am.
Ivan was born on March 8, 1936, in Adrian, Michigan, the son of James and Marjoria (Doriell) Brooks. He married the love of his life, Velma Beverly Nowitzke, on August 16, 1958, in Willow, Michigan. Together they shared a devoted and loving marriage for over 67 years.
Ivan was employed by the Ford Motor Company as an assembly line worker, retiring after 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he remained active by co-owning a dump trucking business with his daughter, Bonnie, and son-in-law, Kevin.
Ivan had a zest for life that was evident in the many interests and simple pleasures he enjoyed. He loved music and dancing and never turned down an opportunity to get on the dance floor, whether square dancing with family, two-stepping with his wife, or dancing to old-time rock ’n’ roll. He and Velma enjoyed euchre parties with their adult children and formed many lasting friendships over the years. Ivan also enjoyed attending car shows, watching sky divers, bird watching from his backyard patio, building puzzles, and spending time outdoors.
As an expert tree trimmer Ivan took great pride in tackling even the most challenging jobs and was known for the quality of his work. He loved camping, hunting, and working around his property, and he especially cherished family gatherings, always eager to be the first to arrive.
Ivan was known for his friendly nature and kind heart. His greatest joy came from time spent with his grandchildren, taking pride in their accomplishments and happiness. His life was further enriched by the addition of his six great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
Ivan is survived by his wife, Velma; his children, Connie (Ed) Schultz and Bonnie (Kevin) Kirkpatrick; his sisters, Ruth Westgate and Ann Rice; his grandchildren, Justin (Cayla) Kirkpatrick, Makaela (Jake) Cranmore, Carl (Quinn) Kirkpatrick, Johanna (Bryan) Fisher, and Alaynna Schultz; and his great-grandchildren, June and Josie Kirkpatrick, Nora and Henry Kirkpatrick, Jack Cranmore, and Roman Fisher. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews who will carry forever the memory of Ivan’s kind heart and carefree spirit.----
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Mary Lou, Jim, Ernestine, Tom, and Donna May; and his grandchild, Marissa.
Ivan’s life was a testament to selfless love, devotion to family, and a deep and profound faith in God. His legacy is one of love, guidance, and unwavering support. All who knew him were truly blessed, and his absence will be deeply felt.
