Jack William Stapish's Obituary
John “Jack” William Stapish of Brooklyn, Michigan, 86, passed away Friday August 4, 2023 peacefully at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born on June 6, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph and Alice (Stoner) Stapish. Jack married the love of his life, Jeanette Thomson, on May 7, 1960, in Taylor, Michigan. He is a graduate of Southwestern High School in Detroit, class of 1956. Jack built the home they lived in for many decades. He will be remembered as a good man who was always willing to help others. Jack served in the United States Army, stateside, as a medic during the Vietnam War. In 1957 he began an apprenticeship at Nicholson Terminal and Dock Company in Ecorse, Michigan. Then in 1964 he began his apprenticeship with Ford Motor Company, where he continued to work until his retirement in 1993. Jack spent his spare time working on machinery out in the barn. He was also a talented woodworker, making crafts that he sold at shows in Oscoda, Michigan; he was known for carving and painting miniature owls and maple leaves with intricate detail. Jack was honored with the Silver Beaver Award for exceptional character and distinguished service as a Boy Scout Leader. He liked kayaking at his Florida home during the winters, and he also enjoyed annual camping trips to Hoffmaster State Park. Jack will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Jack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanette Stapish; his children, Jacki (Ron) Bonner; and Mike Stapish; his granddaughter, Kathryn Bonner; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and nine siblings.
