James "Jim" S. DeLand's Obituary
Age 84, of Columbia Township, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 under the loving care of his family, dear friend Janet Day and the staff of Great Lakes Caring Hospice. Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Elsie May (Haller) in 2011 and his sister, Liz Stanfield. He is survived by two sons, J. Steven DeLand and Rick (Joy) DeLand; four grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Melanie and Gage DeLand; brother-in-law, Neil "Mort" Stanfield, niece, nephew, cousins and the Haller family. The son of Gaylord and Winifred (Griffin) DeLand, he was born and raised on their Napoleon Township farm. Jim was a 1951 graduate of Napoleon High School. He was a lifelong dairy farmer on his boyhood farm, but he and Elsie moved down the road and purchased the farm where he raised his family. Cremation has taken place and a casual time to gather and share stories of Jim and Elsie will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Irish Hills Eagles, 9500 Wamplers Lake Road (intersection of Monroe Pike), Brooklyn, MI 49230. Food and refreshments will be provided by the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. For those who wish, contributions in their memory may be given to the charity of one's choice or Great Lakes Caring Hospice, 900 Cooper Street, Jackson, MI 49202.
