James William Nichols' Obituary
James William Nichols, 89, of Jackson passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Otterbein Senior Living Community. Jim’s family and friends will gather Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Lutheran Church of the Lakes. His funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Pastor Rev. Jim Weist will officiate. A private interment of ashes will take place at a later date at the Macon Cemetery.
He was born on October 2, 1936 in Toledo, Ohio, to Jack Nichols and Blanche (Eurenius) Barrett. He will be remembered as a fun-loving man who enjoyed bowling, golf, music, reading and collecting and working on antique cars. Jim was also a founding member of the Lutheran Church of the Lakes. He graduated from Tecumseh High School and Adrian College with a Bachelors Degree in Administration. Jim spent his career in trucking logistics. He also enjoyed traveling, camping and board games. Jim attended as many sporting events as possible to support his children. He was always available to them for any of their needs. Jim will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Helen; his children, Doug Nichols, Debbie (Bob) Wahr and Darlene Bell, step-children, Guy Rickard, Gloria Russell and Arvilla Ashenfelter; a sister, Lois Kline; grandchildren, Stephanie Blanchard, Gwen Bell and Eric (Laura Taylor) Wahr, and many beloved extended family members. He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years and mother of his children, Anne (Bailey) Nichols, his parents, and sisters, Marilyn Nichols and Susan Nowak.
