James Woodrow Shoemaker's Obituary
James Woodrow Shoemaker, 86, passed away on May 1, 2026. A private graveside service will take place with Military Honors at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
James was born on March 16, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to Woodrow and Caroline (Kallynchuk) Shoemaker. James graduated from Wayne Memorial High School, then shortly after joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country from 1959 until 1963. In 1964, he married the love of his life Mary Louise Granz, on May 9th, at St. John’s Baptist Church, in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. James will be remembered as a loving husband, father and uncle. He enjoyed attending auctions and setting up for antique shows. James also enjoyed joking around with people and his favorite phrase was “don’t worry about it”.
James will be missed by his wife of nearly 62 years, Mary; his children, Brenda Shoemaker and Jim L. (Stephanie) Shoemaker; and his special nephew, Pete Bergeron. He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Caroline and his sister Florence Campbell.
