Jerry James Sweeney Sr.'s Obituary
Jerry James Sweeney, 86, of Grass Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on June 20, 2026. Jerry’s family and friends will gather from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026 at Eineder Funeral Homes – Michigan Center Chapel directly followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Deacon Chris Vida will officiate the service.
Jerry was born on November 26, 1939, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to James Robert and Ruth Mary (Ferriell) Sweeney. He married the love of his life, Kay Francis Carroll, on June 24, 1960, in Jackson, Michigan and they spent 65 happy years together. Jerry worked as a journeyman at Ford Motor Company for 38 years where he specialized in making tools and dies. After retiring from Ford, Jerry became a gunsmith. In his free time, he enjoyed deer hunting and spending time outdoors. He was also an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions. More than anything else, though, Jerry loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jerry will be missed by his wife Kay Frances Sweeney; his children, Jerry (Barbara) Sweeney Jr., Shari (Dave) Boyce, Lori Donaldson, Tony Sweeney, and Tamika (Kyle) Lagow; siblings, Lynn, Mike, and Rick; grandchildren, Mandy (Joe) Treacey, Sean, Parker, and Austin (Carla) Boyce, Joshua, Jordan, and Kaylei Donaldson, Zoee and Kylinn Lagow; and 18 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Ruth Sweeney and sisters, Barbara and Gwen.
