John Frank Herdus, 92, of Clarklake, Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Faith Haven Assisted Living in Jackson. John’s family will hold a private graveside service at Fort Custer National Cemetery with full military honors.
He was born on March 23, 1933, in Jackson, Michigan to August and Mary Herdus. He married the late, Wanda Paciorek in Jackson, Michigan. He will be remembered for his story telling and jokes. John loved playing his trumpet in the first Polish band (the Polish Cavaliers). He was a volunteer for the Liberty Fire Department for over 40 years. John was involved in the boy scouts with his sons and helped coach the Clarklake Schools Little League teams. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. John also worked at Michigan International Speedway when needed. He was a member of the (PLA) Polish Legion of American Vets, and president of the Holy Cross Polish-National Catholic Church of Jackson before its closing. John was the best babysitter, and amazing cook that made awesome soup, and always had time to ask “how was your day”. Above all, John cherished his time with his family and his dogs. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his children, Stephen Florek, Tim Herdus, Carol Burns, Brian (Sunday) Herdus, and Terry Herdus; grandchildren Stephanie, Alinda, Jessica, Richard, Brian, Jr., Libby, and Corey (Taylor); many great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parent’s August and Mary; his wife Wanda; and all his siblings.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Irish Hills Fraternal Order of the Eagles #3689. Please leave a message of comfort for John’s family or sign his guestbook at www.EinederFuneralHomes.com.
