John Thomas,
Your Dad was my head football coach in his first year at Manchester High School (1968). I was one of his captains, and he made me and the rest of my teamates the best we could ever be. When I think back on the individuals that have made a "major" impact on my life, hands down your Dad was one of the most important people in my life.
Just a little tidit: your Dad was trying for weeks to get us to run a new play in practice, and then one night, we got it right. I was the ball carrier, and after we finally executed it correctly, he said "Kirk, you're the best of the worst."
I live in California, but I saw your Dad (actually I ran out on the field and hugged him) at the 100th meeting, between our arch rival Clinton a few years back.
I also saw him again at my 50th High School reunion.
I was hoping to just stop by and see him when I flew back to Michigan this summer to see friends and family.
Unfortunately, I reget never getting the chance to say to good bye.
With your Dad's passing, Manchester, has lost an incredible individual.
