John Carter Rose Sr.'s Obituary
John Carter Rose, Sr., 96, of Clarklake, MI, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home, Jackson, MI. John’s family and friends will gather Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 10:00 am - 11:am with his funeral service to follow at 11:00am at the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, 160 N. Main St., Brooklyn. Pastor Tami Recob will serve as celebrant.
John was born on October 5, 1926 in Syracuse, New York to Jonathan and Lucile (Crockett) Rose. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Melvin, June 1951 in Baltimore, Maryland and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary two years ago. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army and graduated from Carnegie Tech as a mechanical engineer after the war. John worked for 55 years with a specialization in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration. John formed his own business Heat Flow Products in 1972 that subsequently added Arctic Service. Prior to this, he worked for Acme Industries and Rheem Corporation in Jackson. He retired at age 78 and did consulting work in Ghana and South Africa earlier in his career. He was an avid sailor of Rebel sailboats at Clarklake and competed nationally with fellow Clark Lake Yacht Club members that included his wife. He and Dorothy enjoyed river cruises in Europe and sailed with the Elder Hostel after they retired. John was a fan of the Detroit Tigers until his death and was a formidable bridge player. Most of all, he was known for his social nature and enjoyed time with friends at the Clarklake Beach Bar. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his devoted wife Dorothy of 72 years, his children Marjorie (Rose) Wilhite and John C. Rose, Jr.; his sister, Mary Fournier; six grandchildren; one great grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Virginia (Rose) Steen.
