Jon M. "Mike" Thomas' Obituary
Thomas, Jon Michael "Mike", of Jackson, formerly of Frederick, MD, age 76 passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022. Mike was born in Frederick, Maryland on Thursday, July 18, 1946 to the late Ralph M. and Lois V. (Compher) Thomas Sr. Mike is survived by his wife of 24 years; Janice (VanEpps) Thomas; son Seth (Juliet) Thomas; stepson; Jeffrey (Jennifer) VanEpps; five grandchildren, Grant and Hudson Thomas; Nicholas, Adrianna and Octavia VanEpps, sister-in-law Carol Ann Thomas, brother-in-law Noah E. "Ned" Kefauver III; and eighteen nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses; Lois Virginia (Bill) Koontz, Mary Grace (Jim) Baker, Alice Jeanne (Gordon) Main, brother; Ralph Monroe Thomas Jr. and his sister; Diane Compher Kefauver.
After graduating from Frederick High School, Class of 1965, Mike held several jobs in the private industry before going to work at the National Institute for Standards and Technology as an Engineering Technician. He earned numerous performance and achievement awards during his career. Mike retired after 30 years and lived a leisurely life.
Mike was very active in Civitan International, serving in all offices of the Civitan Club of Frederick, MD and serving the Chesapeake District of Civitan International as Lt. Governor, Board of Directors, District Secretary, District Governor-Elect and Governor. As Governor, he was awarded the Distinguished Governor's Award for 1989-90 and was also awarded the Club and District Honor Keys.
According to Mike's wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
