Joseph R. "Joe" Engers' Obituary
Age 71, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Engers; mother and step-father, Joyce (Donald) Manning; step-sister, Donette Manning. Joe is survived by four children, Jill (Lloyd Simmons) Fowler, Janette (Derek) Goldstein, Andrew Zuke and Katie Zuke; two grandchildren, Nathaniel Goldstein and Hannah Goldstein; five siblings, Cheri (Jim) Hobbs, Stacey Manning (Steve Morris), Joette (Ruben) Perez, Suzette Manning and Lonnie Manning; many nieces and nephews.
A 1966 graduate of Northwest High School, Joe went on to earn his Associates Degree from Jackson Community College. He then went on to serve a term in the U.S. Army in Vietnam where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Upon returning to Michigan, Joe worked and retired as a corrections officer with the State of Michigan Prison System in Jackson. Although he was not an outgoing social person, Joe managed to make a positive difference in the life of others.
Cremation has taken place and services to honor Joe's life will be announced at a later date.
