Joseph Martin Godin's Obituary
Joseph M. Godin (Joe), 91, died November 9, 2023 in Tecumseh, Michigan. Joe was born June 8, 1932 in Fort Riley, KS. After high school in 1952, he was drafted into the Army to serve in the Korean War, returning on Veterans Day November 11, 1954. He achieved the rank of Corporal while at Port Operations in Pusan, Korea. He also received his “accommodation ribbon with medal pendant” for developing the distribution operations for unloading fuel barrels at port to the Air Base at Tague, Korea. Joe joined Marsh McLennan Insurance moving to Milwaukee, WI in 1964 to head up the new office. In 1975, he transitioned with Marsh to a newly acquired office located in Albuquerque, NM. He joined Aon Insurance in Denver, CO as Sales Manager in 1989 and then returned to Albuquerque in 1996 where he started Godin Dealer Services. This company has since been acquired by his son, Mike Godin.
Alberta Corrine Wilson (Godin) was born in McCune, KS on June 26, 1935. Corrine met Joe her freshman year of high school when he had moved from Florence, WI. They dated throughout high school and were married on July 12, 1952. Their marriage lasted a lifetime and he missed her dearly since her passing on December 4, 2007 in Albuquerque, NM. They both had a passion for travel and adventured up the West Coast to Alaska, across Canada, the Midwest and home again to Albuquerque. His last six plus years have been spent in Brooklyn, MI at Wamplers Lake. Joe always loved lake time and Friday night fish fry with the group at Jerry’s Pub. He was known to a few as “Uber Joe” when providing driving services and loved a round of golf at his favorite course, Hill’s Heart of The Lakes. Most mornings started with a trip to Callahan’s Coffee Café for his special coffee.
Joe will be sorely missed by his family, son, Joseph M. Godin Jr. (Marty) and wife Donna (Brooklyn, MI), son Phillip (and wife Kathy who just recently passed), granddaughter Alishia Rooney and husband Nick, great granddaughter Britni (West Mineral, KS), son Mike and wife Tammy, grandson Evan and granddaughter Madison (Albuquerque, NM), along with his cousin Sharon Salvino (Surprise, AZ)…not to mention a host of close friends and extended family across this beautiful land. Joe loved this country very much and would tear up at the National Anthem as he treasured our freedom so many have defended. Tunnels to Towers and Folds of Honor were two organizations that he supported. Even during the war, he and his buddies found time to make sure the orphanage on Pusan Island, Korea had Christmas gifts. Giving was his nature. Joe would often state: “I have had a great life” God bless!
Memorial contributions are suggested to Tunnels to Tower Foundation or Folds of Honor. Please leave a message of comfort for Joseph’s family or sign his guestbook at www.EinederFuneralHomes.com.
