Joy Anne Reed's Obituary
JOY ANNE (ZOET) REED of Clarklake, MI born 27 October 1942, went to Heaven to join her parents on February 19, 2024 at the age of 81. Joy was preceded in death by her adopted parents, Wayne and Thelma Hessemer and stepmother Mary Lou Hessemer. She leaves behind her husband of 62 years and son Ronald, daughter Cynthia, grandson Franklin and brothers Max, Scott and David Gormley.
Joy graduated from Jackson High and attended Michigan State University. She met her husband Walter on a raft in the middle of Clark Lake and went home to tell her parents of the weird guy at the party. She started dating the weird guy while at MSU and she and Walt married the next year.
Joy traveled the world and the US with her army husband until they settled in Ann Arbor. She worked for University Microfilms on Zeeb road for 29 years, retiring as the Director of Serials Publications.
When she and her husband retired, they came back to Clarklake to renovate the ancestral Reed Family Farmhouse and again began traveling the world. They toured more than 20 countries. She was most proud of visiting China and Russia.
Joy served as treasurer of the Brooklyn Food Pantry, treasurer of the Clarklake Community Church, and was a 10-year member of the Clarklake Lions Club.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Eineder Funeral Home in Brooklyn, Michigan on Saturday, 16 March 2024. Visitation begins at 10 AM and the service will start at 11 AM.
The family has asked that any donations be given to the Brooklyn Food Pantry.
