Judy Carole Backiel's Obituary
Judith “Judy” Carole Backiel, 83 of Brooklyn passed away peacefully at Henry Ford Hospice Home May 16, 2024. Judith’s family and friends will gather from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at St. Rita Catholic Church, 10516 Hayes Rd, Clarklake, MI 49234. Her Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Rita Catholic Church. Fr. Tom Helfrich OSFS will serve as celebrant.
Judy was born on February 2, 1941, in Windsor, Ontario to Clarence and Blanche (Goudreau) Renaud. Judy married the love of her life, Fred Backiel, on August 25, 1962, at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Westland, Michigan and they enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. She worked for nearly 30 years as a secretary, first for Wayne Westland Schools and then for Livonia Public Schools. Judy was an artist, crafter and an entrepreneur who had an amazing gift for creating reborn baby dolls during her retirement. She will be most remembered for her devotion to her family. Judy greatly loved and adored her grandchildren and great grandchild.
Judy will be deeply missed by her husband, Fred; her children, Derick Backiel, Denise (DeAngelo) Webster, and Darryl Backiel; grandchildren, DeAngelo “Shane” (Jesaka) Webster and Micalah Webster; great grandchild, Makoa Webster; niece and nephew, Ty and Sherry; and nieces, Linda and Donna; her sister-in-law, Marie Elaine Maslak; and her lifelong best friend, Sue “Susie” Mitchel. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Shirley.
